I was brought about to yoga through a roundabout path. I started my career as a nurse working in the Neuro Intensive Care Unit, caring for traumatic brain injury and trauma patients. After the birth of my last child, Elizabeth, I took a break from nursing to care for her full time. Even though I planned to return to work, all plans were changed after Elizabeth’s diagnosis of autism. To keep me calm and centered, I started taking yoga classes in 2005. It was through that process, that I now find myself inspired to share yoga with as many people as possible. My first passion was sharing with children, typical and those with disabilities. I am now honored to share with people I work with in the medical community and with those that would otherwise not have the opportunity to practice and learn about yoga. I have worked with the Barbara Sinatra Center, with veterans through Operation Ability and members of our community requiring mental health services. Yoga is truly a gift that I am so honored to share with all of you.
At a young age, Deanna fell in love with dance. After years of study and training, she performed and choreographed many pieces in college as well as in communities throughout southern California. Over the years, she attended multiple workshops where she developed and honed her skills working with professional dance companies such as Jean Isaacs, Pilobolus and Gus Girodano. As a former dancer, Deanna has a comprehensive understanding of body movement and teaching Pilates was a natural progression of her dance background. As a movement professional, teaching both private and group Pilates sessions for some years she felt that Yoga would be a great benefit to use in conjunction with some of her more clinical Pilates clientele. In 2014 she completed the 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training at the accredited Desert Yoga Therapy School with Jayne Robertson. Deanna wanted to share her passion for blended Yoga, Pilates and Dance classes with her students/clients to better educate them on the importance of improved body awareness. In 2016 Body Rhythm-Yoga and Pilates was founded. She blends her intuitive knowledge to create a graceful flow, with an emphasis on proper alignment, core strength, and stability with a little playfulness. Her main teaching philosophy is to find healthy movement practices through a “synergistic approach to whole body wellness”.
She enjoys working with a variety of individuals, from elite and recreational athletes, to those recovering from injuries as well as those who would like to explore new, exciting and healthy movement practices. Her greatest joy in teaching is to watch her students grow stronger mentally and physically, with increased confidence and self- awareness.
