Story Behind This CD
Over the past five years my husband and I have had four major surgeries and a few minor procedures. Fortunately, we both had a yoga practice for years leading up to these events which, upon reflection, truly assisted us to get through these challenges with greater ease.
Early one morning during a hospital stay following an emergency appendectomy, I was awakened with the sound of a beeping alarm growing progressively louder, notifying the need for more pain medication. What followed were a few moments of loud sounds, bright lights, discomfort and a feeling of “why me”? This led to some tears of anguish which were followed by the question, “If I were my own yoga therapist right now, what would I suggest that I do”? Within an hour I had altered my body position, focused on my breath, covered my eyes with a lavender scented eye pillow, and listened to familiar and soothing music. As the nurse came in for a blood draw, he remarked, “You look so relaxed, and it smells go great in here”!
The comments alone from medical staff as we have undergone various procedures are often the same. “You’re so calm. It must be your yoga. I wish all my patients could feel this way…” Well, you can! Just a few minutes a day will help you learn easy tools which can be called on when things become challenging. It’s useful to have a familiar practice that’s as simple as a single breath and this takes time. Plan ahead by loading the CD onto an iPod or MP3 player to more quickly master these techniques, including any other sounds or music that you find soothing.
Here is your chance to have the best possible outcome. We hope you heal well.
