Divine Timing

The inspiration for this week came as we passed through the New Moon in Aries; yes, we are being guided by celestial energies! I love following the moon cycles for a variety of reasons, as it reminds me of the ever-changing cycle of daily living. We can step outside our door to look at the night sky at the same time each night and see how it’s never the same. The energy of the moon is thought to be feminine and reflects light to others and, overall, the moon has a cooling energy, reminding us to slow down and cool our jets. The interesting thing about this past new moon, is that it’s driven by Aries, represented by a ram. So if you feel as though you’re being pummeled by life, you wouldn’t be alone.

Ram’s aren’t the subtlest of creatures and are known for butting heads and running into things. I associate them with a certain determined stubbornness which may be reflected in an inability to go easy on ourselves and others. Yet during this particular time of year, we sit in a paradox with the emergence of spring blossoms and warmer weather coaxing us outside, getting more active, and perhaps giving more effort into what we wish to be manifesting. A similar emergence is coming from the ever-shifting pandemic. We are beginning to poke our heads back out into more public interactions and if you’re like me, having to re-adjust behaviors learned during a year of pandemic living. It feels strange seeing people out and about and odd to not have lines in front of the supermarket to control the number of people entering the store. Silently I’m wondering “is this okay, because this feels really weird?”

What this reveals is that we need to trust how we individually relate to the timing of things. Divine timing is about trusting the rhythm of your life rather than being like a ram and forcing your way into making things happen. The new moon is thought to be the time where we set intentions and plant seeds in our inner garden of what we wish to bring forth and the full moon is where we witness what has manifested. Where divine timing comes into play is knowing that it may take many moon cycles for things to unfold.

Over the past two years, I have noticed and truly appreciated my own serendipitous timing. My husband and I made a decision that we wanted to travel more lightly through life, to relieve financial stress, and de-clutter so we put our big house on the market. It was months of open houses and keeping the place staged. We had no solid offers during this time so when we took our annual trip to Australia, we kept the listing live with agents but psychologically felt that the house was off the market and we’d reignite the process upon our return. What ended up happening is a week before we were to leave Australia, we received an offer. It felt like such a surprise as we had let go of expecting anything to happen and, lo and behold, what we had intended finally had the right conditions and the right buyer.

More recently, as we have decided to uproot from our current living situation and embark on a journey as world nomads, someone suggested that right now might be the optimal time to put our condo on the market. This idea came suddenly and felt premature as we still have three months before we head off. Yet, after discussing the pros and cons, we listed the property and in less than six days, we went into escrow. Again, looking at each other, both my husband and I felt like the timing was right and was completely not what we had anticipated.

By trusting that things will work out when the time is right involves letting go of a particular outcome. If we hold an expectation, particularly around things we have little control over, we can set ourselves up for disappointment and frustration. When we get more clarity about what we truly want our lives to look and feel like and put it out there as a nurtured intention, we soften our need for it to look a certain way and open to greater spaciousness for possibilities perhaps never considered.

As Anthon St. Maarten said, “Everything we need to fulfill our true destiny always comes to us at the perfect time. But spiritual awareness is required to recognize those gifts and opportunities.”

For me, this perfectly describes what happens when we get on our mats. We set the intention of simply getting into our practice, open our hearts to what may happen and release any expectation that something should be happening. We surrender and turn inward to the highest essence of who we are. And we trust that everything will work out in the time that’s aligned within our own hearts and with that of the greater universal energy.

As Esther Hicks reminds us, “The universe knows the perfect timing for all those things you want and will find, through the crack of least resistance, the best way to deliver it to you.”
