I ALWAYS feel calmer, safer, and full of gratitude for much more than I have realized, and today you gave me hope. I could go on and on, tell you details and things from my lists, but I'll fuse everything (not really possible) I got from today's Beyond Asana class by thanking you for leaving me with much hope. A different kind of hope than I've been stressed about. I love listening to you, your wisdom, and how you teach us. You have taught me that I can do so much more than just show up, even if I think that's what I'm doing.
Thank you for being the Greatest Jayne in the world, and for sharing so much of yourself and your life to make us (me) better in so many ways.
I came across this quote while trying to formulate my thoughts on what the 8-Limb Course has meant to me...“most importantly, spiritual growth doesn’t happen when you’re meditating or on a yoga mat. It happens in the midst of conflict-when you’re frustrated, angry, or scared and you are doing the same old thing, and then you suddenly realize that you have a choice to do it differently...”
This course has given me so much information and tools to deepen my entire yoga practice and therefore my life. I am so grateful to Jayne for being the warm, funny, authentic conduit for these teachings. I would highly recommend this course to anyone wanting more insight into how Yoga might enhance your daily life.
The quality of what Jayne does cannot be surpassed. She has changed my life by not ‘Westernizing’ yoga. My yoga practice, developed over many months now, gives me peace when I let it, and a new awareness of the strengths and limitations of my physical body. Without her classes, I may not have realized how much love my left side needed in time to seek appropriate, traditional medical intervention. And that is the perpetual struggle—time and self-knowledge. Jayne has taught me the value of time for my mind and my body. Because of her teachings, the yoga practice I now benefit from gives me physical and emotional self-knowledge that is part of everything I do.
Jayne has taught me to push through my anxiety, quiet my fears, appreciate and love myself. She has shown me that it is soooo important to give myself and my time with her on the mat and that I don't have to "perform." Rather, to stretch to feel better and challenge my body to not give in but to give a bit more. Her wonderfully clever personality and a killer sense of humor is the best time of my week. I'm eternally grateful for all Jayne has "sent" into my head and my heart.
I have found something so special in Jayne’s studio. It used to be that running always was my therapy. Due to an accident last year, I couldn’t do what I always did to keep me as centered as I ever could be. Moving to a new city (Rancho Mirage), being an empty nester and not having any friends here was quite stressful. Practicing with Jayne has been life-changing for me. I don’t say that lightly. Coming to class is my favorite part of every day, and starting to practice yoga again after 20 years, is my favorite part of our move to Rancho Mirage. I find that I’m being more kind to myself and that self-kindness, self-acceptance, and gratitude is helping me in life so very much. Desert Yoga Therapy really is my medicine. Thank you, Jayne!
I am most thankful that you established Desert Yoga Therapy last December and that my physical therapist directed me to you as a way to continue, what I thought of then as “very unusual physical therapy.” As it turns out, what she was having me do was based in yoga practices, and your studio classes allow me to continue to understand how the mind and body have to work together. Desert Yoga Therapy has changed my life and given me much hope for the future. Thank you so much for all you do to provide a spiritual and physical place of healing for others.
I want to profoundly thank you for making this CD. I had a cardiac procedure yesterday and used your CD for about one week prior to the procedure. It was helpful during those days. When I got to the waiting area, it was so backed up and I was beginning to get very anxious. Too much waiting, too much noise etc. So I started to do the breathing and repeating silently about my caregivers all being there for me and wanting the best outcome for me. It got me through the moments of being alone on the stretcher in the hallway wondering what and why I was doing this procedure. Thank you, thank you. The procedure could not have gone better. Thanks again for making that CD and for being you.
The lessons on the mat have helped me survive nursing school, a divorce and empty nest syndrome...then a sick parent and a move across country!! Yoga has been the foundation for every interaction I have with my patients. So yes, when I come to class...I am a sponge looking for more tools to add to my toolbox!
Thank you so much, Jayne, for giving me independence by teaching me yoga, for freeing my spirit and setting me on this path.
You have brought so much light, knowledge, guidance, and wisdom into my life. It's rare to find someone who has such impact in your life. . you're the kind of little Angels we are lucky to meet in our paths and who deserve to need to take care of!
Your words today in your blog comforted me. I hope you know how loved and appreciated you are by so many people. And how you pass that on. Thank you for the reminder-trying to: Love In and Love Out.
You are an extraordinary teacher in every way-your deep knowledge of your field (and life's work) your communication skills and your ability to design session that are both educational and pragmatic for a range of body/mind issues.
Could say a million things but will keep it to the point. You have taught me so many simple and amazing things, all have changed and impacted my life in extreme and positive ways. I am grateful everyday for the things I've learned, the life I have, to be a teacher, to have a teacher!
Thank you Jayne
Thank you for heightening my awareness of the miracle and meaning of inspiring and exhaling the breath of life.
You are such a gifted teacher - with a beautiful, velvety voice! The closing today was very prayerful and I soaked that in, leaving class feeling full and blessed.
I often listen to Krishna Das' channel on XM radio, and the other day he talked about those who become your guru. I immediately thought of you and offered up gratitude for all that has happened that has led me to you.
Words cannot express how you have helped me and guided me in my yoga journey, something I will never forget and am eternally grateful for.
Your commitment to your work and purpose are inspiring. I shall strive to bring more steadfastness and equanimity into the unclear future of my own life and work.
As I pass the 100 consecutive day mark with my meditation, I feel a mix of appreciation that I’ve been able to keep a consistent practice, and an awareness that I’ve just made a very small baby step! I’m grateful to you both for inspiring me and pointing me towards tools that have helped me rededicate myself to building a spiritual anchor — perhaps a sea anchor that will provide a measure of stability amidst the swirling currents, and an ongoing reminder to keep practicing to build the capacity to be open and present to what is amidst the changes.
I want you to know the profound impact your class has had on my life. I found you just as we began to get serious about taking a next step in our life and shortly thereafter, my best friend died. You have been deeply supportive of me and I have grown as a woman in your class and found center and peace at a time when it was sorely needed. I plan to be a forever restorative woman. It is just the type of thing my soul cries out for. Thank you for creating the space I needed to both heal and to grow. I'm forever grateful to you and to what you have so lovingly created here and I send you all my best wishes for success and community in your new space. What you have created there is PERFECT and I mean that. And the intention that I can feel you have behind it will make it what it needs to be for this community. I would wish you luck, but you won't need it.
Thank you for your care and practice. The past 4 weeks have made an amazingly positive impact on my healing. I know that I am in the right place at Desert Yoga Therapy. This journey that I am on is without a doubt very difficult and unpredictable. Chemo Therapy is invasive and often overwhelming. Having 2 days a week when I can feel better in my mind, helps all other aspects of me. Again, I just want to say thank you!
During my stay in Sanctuary I was lucky to have a few great experiences and meet a few amazing people. One of these great experiences was being able to be part of Jayne's retreat and to meet Jayne. There are two words that come to my mind if I think of Jayne and her way of working; professionalism and intimacy. In my opinion she makes a holistic yoga session by combining the physical experience with the spiritual experience. Because she makes her lessons very personal I felt a sense of intimacy which opened up; physical, spiritual and interpersonal. Jayne is the "excellence is our standard.
To all yoga fans! I recently spent a weekend in the rainforest of Mission Beach in North Queeensland where I discovered Jayne's yoga classes. Imagine a room lost in the forest , gentle Indian music and a group of enthusiatic if often clumsy neophytes. Guiding them is Jayne who takes you on a spiritual journey and with firm gentleness, has you to excercise body and mind. I just loved it, felt refreshed and rejuvenated afterwards and particularly appreciated the gentle final touch of an eye mask gently resting on your forehead and emanating a subtle scent of lavender. What a wonderful journey to go on with Jayne!
Jayne has been leading me through my yoga practice for at least 4 years now, and with each class comes new challenges, new ideas and new inspiration. She is very in tune with each of her students, and regardless of class size, is always able to provide the personal assistance we all need. Jayne is wonderful at connecting mind, body and spirit and Tuesday is my favorite day of the week! Thank you, Jayne!
Ditto to what everyone else has said. I can't imagine doing yoga with anyone else. I love that she knows each person and what their strengths and weaknesses are. I feel very safe in her classes. Jayne is the real deal. She is compassionate and genuinely wants only the highest and best good for each of us. She is not just someone who teaches yoga, she is the essence of yoga - she is a gifted master.
It was amazing & sooo glad I stayed, a trip of a lifetime! Your experience was of course the highlight of my trip, I can’t tell you enough how much I received from your retreat, TRUE PEACE / JOY / HAPPINESS / RELAXATION / BLISS / Sorry it’s over / but there is always next year!
Jayne, I had absolutely no expectations for how the weekend would unfold however I must say WOW! From the practice, to the food, the lectures, the amazing women that I met, and the emotions that I had no idea would spring forth, it was a great weekend. You are the best!
Surgery is a stressful event for everyone involved. The better you can handle the stress of the anxiety, the surgery and the postoperative pain, the better the experience will be for you. This CD helps you manage all of these stresses naturally without relying on medications which have many side effects. I am recommending this CD to all of my surgical patients and I believe it will help reduce anxiety and pain, leading to a more positive experience and better result.
Much of my practice consists of having my patients focus on wellness and prevention of disease. As a result, I believe the Optimal Healing CD can provide patients with a tool to help prevent anxiety and stress prior to virtually any medical procedure. Moreover, this CD can begin to place more power in the patient as they seek ways of enhancing their health. I highly recommend this CD!
It is so important to be in a positive frame of mind when in a situation where physical (and emotional) healing needs to take place. Being a Physical Therapist and seeing healing take place first hand, I know that the state of mind of the patient has everything to do with the recovery process, the rate of recovery, and total recovery potential. This is why it is important to have guidance that can help you exercise your mind’s true potential for optimum healing to occur.
Jayne and Ken have developed a great CD that can help guide the listener through this process of focused healing and it will help the listener find a positive state of relaxation so as to maximize this healing potential we all have in us.
I would recommend this CD to anyone who wants help and guidance in directing their thought process to find a better place in their bodies for healing, and a better place for balance in their lives.
"It was the single best thing I brought with me to the hospital for surgery last month. And the single best thing I had at home (besides Nurse Dean!) for recovery. The combination of Jayne's reassuring voice, the clear guided imagery, and Ken's beautiful, transformative music helped me to breathe and relax into the moment. Thank You!!"
The CD "Optimal Healing" by Jayne Robertson and her brother Ken Robertson is a very pleasant way to approach surgery. I used it myself when I was going into double knee replacement earlier this year. I listened to it several times before my surgery and it really did have a calming effect on me.
Jayne's voice is very soothing and guiding in the dialogue part of the CD and Ken's music is something one could listen to anytime there was a need for calming, meditative music. They have made a wonderful, loving piece of work that could help anyone going in for surgery.
I played the CD both before and after my knee surgery a number of times and found it to be incredibly calming and supportive. The phrase “energy in/energy out” was particularly helpful as was the breathing of gratitude. Given that my surgery was delayed several hours, I would normally have felt particularly anxious but as I focused on my breath and visualization of a successful outcome those anxieties were relieved. I have two friends who are about to undergo major surgeries and I’m purchasing the CD as a gift to them! Thank you so much!!
